Ms. EngelhardtMeet Ms. Engelhardt

I worked at a parent participation preschool in Palo Alto for eight years. During that time, I came to understand and believe in the value of parent involvement. Parent education topics that were covered in my class included discipline, limit-setting, conflict resolution, and the importance of play.

Teaching is Ms. Engelhardt's second career. Her first career was as a social worker. She worked for child protective services after getting her masters degree. It was a very stressful job and after having her first child she realized it wasn’t the right fit for her at that time. She made the switch to education and is glad she did!

While teaching at Bubb, she was presented with the opportunity to switch schools within the district. She felt that Stevenson, which emphasized parent engagement, would be a good fit for her. Since joining Stevenson PACT, she has found the staff to be supportive and the parents very welcoming.

She values communication with the parents and enjoys having them join her in the classroom. She says, "This is 'our' classroom - and that includes the parents. I hope being in the classroom will become a natural part of the family’s school experience."

Ms. Engelhardt speaks both German and Spanish, as her parents are both from Germany and her husband is from Mexico. She has two children, one now in college, one in high school.
