Meet Mr. Kyle
Kyle was born in Santa Monica, California, but has spent the majority of his life in San Jose. As a child, he attended Mulberry School, a co-op elementary school founded on a similar philosophy to Stevenson. Parent involvement and participation, arts education, a focus on social-emotional development and experiential learning, and a respect for all abilities quickly showed him that education is a communal endeavor. It was the care and joy that Kyle found from his teachers early on in his life that planted the seeds for his love of education and desire to become a teacher.
While studying English Literature at UC Santa Barbara, Kyle worked in several elementary school classrooms getting his feet wet as a teacher. After graduating, he returned to San Jose and spent two years working at two of his former schools - coaching Cross County and Track at Bellarmine College Prep in San Jose and substitute teaching at Mulberry School. During this time, he was able to work with and be mentored by the educators who had initially given him a love of learning. In 2014, Kyle returned to school at Stanford University to receive an MA in Education and a teaching credential.
Stevenson PACT seemed like the perfect fit for Mr. Kyle from the first he heard of it. “I have really enjoyed the collaborative atmosphere here among both staff and families,” Kyle said, “It really feels like everyone here is working for the best interests of our most important responsibility - the students.” Having been educated through project based and experiential learning, Kyle says that he feels right at home here. “What we do – our projects and our focus on social emotional development, the amazing Arts Focus program – all of this makes school a worthwhile experience for the students. It’s also a lot of fun for the teachers!”
In his spare time, you can find Mr. Kyle running and hiking on the nearby Bay Area trails, cooking, gardening, and spending time with friends and family.
