Sarah BarmazelMeet Ms. Barmazel

Ms. Barmazel joined the teaching staff in the 2017-18 school year as a member of the fifth grade team. Ms. Barmazel, who is originally from Santa Rosa, was most recently working I the Milpitas Unified School District teaching 4th grade. In addition, she has previous teaching experience in Santa Barbara, Vancouver, Singapore and Uganda. In Vancouver, she worked as a science educator at the Science World Educational Museum and Uganda worked as a health educator through the Health Department to help reduce the spread of HIV in Uganda.

Ms. Barmazel comes from a family of teachers who she says, “taught me that education was always a priority.” As such, she has always found joy in instilling a love of learning in others. She also strongly believes that social emotional learning is something that needs to be taught, just like academics. This is one reason she was drawn to Stevenson PACT. She says, “I love how Stevenson PACT focuses on SEL as well as community engagement. When these concepts are given priority, you don't just get good learners but decent human beings.”

As a teacher, she believes in seeing every child as a whole person and hopes they leave her classroom knowing they are capable of changing things around them. In her spare time, she does improv professionally and also loves salsa dancing and Muay Thai, a form of martial arts.
