Dear Stingray Parents and Guardians,

February 17th is Random Acts of Kindness day. We are excited to share that we will have grade level assemblies for students on the 17th and 18th that highlight how to be a Bucket Filler and be kind to others! Also on Thursday February 17th, Stevenson will be hosting a parent workshop led by Bucket Fillers Forever! The 45 minute workshop provides opportunities for parents and caretakers to learn ways to support and grow the bucket filling message at home. We hope that you are able to join! Zoom Link to Register

We want to hear from you! LCAP meetings and survey

The District is beginning its annual process of updating the LCAP (Local Control Accountability Plan). The input collected will guide the update of our District plan for the 2022-23 school year. You participating in the process will help our school by ensuring that our school's needs are considered as the LCAP is revised for the 2022-23 school year

If you have not done so already, please take a moment to complete the survey about the plan’s goals. Access the survey here: http://mvw.sd/LCAPParent

More information about LCAP is here: https://www.mvwsd.org/lcap

Sincerely,

Ryan Santiago

Principal, Stevenson Elementary

FAN-tastic Fridays

The month of February is National Random Acts of Kindness Day! In celebration of random acts of kindness, Mr. Santiago and Mrs. Lyons will be randomly picking 4 staff members to highlight each Friday from now to the end of the year. This week the 4 staff members picked at randomly were:

  1. Ms. Clem, 3rd grade teacher

  2. Ms. Lester, STEAM teacher

  3. Mrs. Donahue, Librarian

  4. Mr. Abe, Day Custodian

Please feel welcome to join us in filling their buckets and sending acts of kindness their way! If you have free time, have your student(s) draw them a picture or write them a note. These FAN-tastic staff members will surely appreciate it!

After School Enrichment Programs

Stevenson is excited to share that we are offering multiple options for fully funded after-school enrichment programs. Due to the pandemic, schools have been provided Learning Recovery Funds to support students during the 2021-2022 school year. As part of our school site plan, we will be prioritizing these opportunities for students/families that meet one of the following: Socio-Economically Disadvantaged (Free/Reduced Lunch), Hispanic/Latino, and English Language Learners. Other families can state interest as well, but priority will be provided to these students/families. Please refer to the email that was sent on Tuesday, February 8th for more details.

Student Drop off and Pick up Reminders

-Parents who would like to walk their child(ren) to the gate will need to park their car on the street. There is no parking in the drop-off and pick up zone. Parents may get out of their car to assist their child, but will then need to get back into their car to exit the parking lot. This will help the flow of traffic move more smoothly for morning drop off and pick up. Please also remember to park your car legally on the street. There have been a few instances of vehicles being parked in red zones or blocking crosswalks.

-Please only use only the loading and unloading zone to drop-off and pick-up your child. The drop-off and pick-up area is located right in front of the office (sidewalk is marked yellow). This is the safest area to drop off your child. Please do not drop off your child in front of parking spots (near the MUR) or by the tennis courts. Please wait until your vehicle is in the loading/unloading zone.

-Pull as far forward in the drop-off/pick-up as you can. To help drop off go more smoothly, please pull as far forward in the drop-off area so we can have more vehicles drop off their children. Pulling forward will allow the flow of traffic to go more smoothly.

-Parking lot spaces are for staff only. Please do not park in the Stevenson and District Office parking lot. Parking is limited and we want to make sure that our teachers and staff are able to have a parking spot to be able to provide instruction and services to our students.

End of 2nd Trimester - Minimum Day 2/18

The second trimester is coming to an end on Friday, February 18th! Every student will be out of school at 12:05pm.

Winter Break - No School 2/21 - 2/25

No school from Monday, February 21st to Friday, February 25th. Enjoy the well-deserved week-long break :)

February Better Together Infographic

In the month of February, there is much to celebrate and acknowledge. The Lunar New Year reminds us of the power of rebirth and renewal, while Black History Month gives us the opportunity to recognize the resilience of those on the shoulders we stand, along with the cultural richness of those identifying as Black in America and across the world. Heritage months grant us the opportunity to highlight the history of oppressed groups and their fight towards equality, but renewal and Black excellence transcend just this month. However we celebrate, we are #BetterTogether.

Please see the graphics attached to this newsletter, or visithttps://www.mvwsd.org/bettertogetherMVWSD.

  • Provide tips for bullying reduction

  • Explore relationship-building to prevent bullying as we work to create new standards of acceptable behavior
