Dear Stingray Parents and Guardians,

This week is Staff Appreciation Week! We have a FAN-tastic team of teachers and staff that go above and beyond each day for our students.  A special thank you to our parent community for letting our staff know just how special they are. Thank you for all the appreciation that you have shown this week and filling our buckets throughout the year!

Summer Construction Updates

We have a number of construction projects planned for this summer. Most of these updates have been shared at one point or another but please reach out if you have any questions. Most of the projects will have minimal impact on the community's ability to use the campus.

Gate Locks

Last year, new fencing and gates were added in order to completely enclose the campus and match the existing fencing. This summer, pending material availability, a lock management system will be added to the gates. With the installation of the automatic locking/unlocking gates, the public will continue to have access to fields in the evenings and on weekends. The purpose of the perimeter controls is to limit points of entry during school hours and secure campuses during school hours when students are present. Additionally, this fall, staff members will be able to access classrooms and offices using key cards, instead of keys.

Storage

A new, approximately 1,000 square foot storage shed will be built between Stevenson and Theuerkauf on the south side of the tennis courts near the existing softball league’s snack shack. If summer construction is not possible, it will be installed during the upcoming school year.

Lighting

New lights and/or bollard-style light posts will be installed to illuminate pedestrians’ paths of travel between campus and parking lots. The light locations were determined by photometric survey data. This additional lighting is an important safety measure for staff members and guests using the campus in the evenings and winter late afternoons.

Security Camera

Security cameras in public areas will be installed at all school sites as a way to increase safety for students and staff members by deterring misconduct and preventing vandalism. Members of the schools’ communities were engaged in a series of feedback meetings in Winter 2022.

Sincerely,

Ryan Santiago

Principal, Stevenson Elementary

What is an ELAC?

Every public K-12 school in California that has more than 21 English Learner students must have an ELAC. The ELAC consists of parents and teachers that work together to support English Learner students with their education.

What is ELAC's purpose?

ELAC's purpose is to advise the principal, school staff, and the School Site Council on programs and services for English Learners. They also work with the school to provide information to the parents and give a voice to the English Learner community so that these families' questions and concerns can be carried back to the principal, school staff, and School Site Council.

If you have any questions, please contact Principal Ryan Santiago at [email protected] or (650) 903 6950 or our School and Community Engagement Facilitator, Mayra Garcia-Mendoza at [email protected].

Please visit mvwsd.org for more information and videos about ELAC.

Parent Input for 2022-2023

Attached is an optional survey for current kindergarten to fourth grade parents to gather input on any special considerations or relevant needs you would like us to review during our student placement process for the 2022-2023 school year. For example, you may wish to comment about peer relationships, interests, and learning styles.

Please provide your feedback by Friday, May 13th.

If you need help getting masks for your students, please let us know. For more information, please see our COVID protocols at https://www.mvwsd.org/returntolearn.
