Dear Stingray Parents and Guardians,

Wow! It is hard to believe that we are at the end of the 2021-2022 school year! I have been reflecting on all that we have accomplished together. Our community has really demonstrated the core value of resilience and also “Filling Buckets” throughout the school year.

First a huge thank you to our FAN-tastic teachers and staff. We are so grateful to have such amazing staff that put our students first all year long. They have had to adapt instruction and the learning environment for the health and safety of our students. We are so thankful for the care and dedication to helping each student grow academically and socio-emotionally.

A special thank you to our parents and community partners for continually “Filling the Buckets” of our staff with the encouragement they have provided. Thank you for partnering with our school to provide our students with SEL lessons, hands-on activities, and events to bring our community together.

I am so grateful to be part of this amazing school! I wish all our Stingray families a fun, relaxing, and safe summer. l am looking forward to seeing all our returning students at school next year!

Sincerely,

Ryan Santiago

Principal, Stevenson Elementary

TK-4 grade students: Turn in Chromebooks by end of year (Repeat)

MVWSD is proud to provide a device for learning to every student, as well as access to the Internet both at home and school. Regular access to the Internet facilitates instruction by allowing students to research and communicate, and ensures equitable access to learning for all students.

Please help us keep our 1:1 program and student devices in good working order by making sure your children (grades TK-4 only) return their Chromebooks to their homeroom teachers before the last day of school. All students (grades TK-7) who are not returning in the fall should turn in Chromebooks by June 3.

If you are returning in the fall, your TK-4 student’s Chromebook will be re-issued to your student in August. For questions, please contact Jon Aker at [email protected].

Families of English Learners: Look for Summative ELPAC results in the mail

MVWSD has begun to receive scores for English Learner students who took the Summative ELPAC assessment this spring. Due to the nature of the assessment, scores will come in on a rolling basis and will be sent to families over the course of the summer. Families should also look for an email this summer detailing how to download the score reports on the PowerSchool Parent Portal. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Leticia Corcoran at [email protected]

Supporting neighbors in need: CSA

Community Services Agency (CSA) provides safety-net services to the most vulnerable members of the Mountain View/Los Altos community. They offer emergency rental assistance, short-term hotel stays, car repairs, senior case management, a food pantry, and many other essential services. In order to support the community, CSA holds events like the upcoming Back-to-School Program on July 29 and 30, when parents and children from the Mountain View Whisman School District who are in need can get gift cards to buy school supplies for the 2022-23 school year. If you are interested in learning more about the Back-to-School Program and how you can help, click here. If you are in need of services, contact CSA at 650-968-0836.

MVEF: Additional ELA Teachers Next Year!

Due to increased support from our donors, MVEF met our stretch goal to raise an additional $300,000 to hire two additional English Language Arts teachers next year, one at each of the MVWSD middle schools. We are happy to announce that MVEF has committed the funds to the District so they can hire the ELA teachers. We are so grateful for the support we have received, and are looking forward to seeing the benefits of smaller class sizes to our students’ education next year!

Summer Reading at MV Public Library

Read, learn, and earn rewards with the Mountain View Public Library this summer! The summer reading program will run from June 4 to July 31, 2022 and is free for all. Register the whole family at mountainview.gov/summerreading.

Covid vaccines and testing locations

The Food and Drug Administration has authorized a booster dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for children ages 5 to 11. To get a COVID vaccine for yourself or your child, see the county’s drop-in clinics here or schedule an appointment with a healthcare provider or pharmacy.

COVID testing remains an important tool to keep yourself and our community safe this summer. Schedule a COVID PCR test with your healthcare provider or at a county facility here. Additionally, every home in the U.S. is eligible to order a 3rd round of free at-home rapid tests if you have not already done so at covid.gov/tests.
