Dear Stingray Parents and Guardians,
One of our core values at Stevenson is empathy, and I recently witnessed a beautiful example of this during an unplanned classroom discussion in Ms. Savitha’s third grade classroom about immigration. When asked why people might choose to come to America, our students thoughtfully considered the many reasons behind such a life-changing decision.
Their responses revealed an impressive understanding of complex issues—from economic opportunities and education to safety concerns and the basic human desire for a better life. What struck me most was how our students naturally recognized that people's motivations vary widely: some seek essential needs like safety and food security, while others pursue opportunities for growth and change.
One student shared, "My grandparents had to move to the United States because there was a lot of damage in Israel," demonstrating how our students connect classroom discussions to their own family histories and experiences.
This kind of perspective-taking is empathy in action. By imagining themselves in others' circumstances, our students are developing the emotional intelligence to understand different viewpoints and experiences—an essential skill in today's diverse world.
As we continue fostering empathy at Stevenson, I'm continually inspired by our students' capacity to consider others' journeys with such openness and understanding. I feel privileged to get to share this with you today.
In service,
Megan Pohlman, Interim Principal

Better Together: February
Black History Month provides MVWSD with a meaningful opportunity to celebrate the rich contributions and achievements of African Americans while fostering a deeper sense of community among our students, staff, and families. By learning about influential Black leaders, innovators, and community helpers - from local civil rights activists to Black educators, doctors, and entrepreneurs who shaped our neighborhood - students develop a broader understanding of how diverse voices and experiences have strengthened our community. Last week, the Board of Trustees passed a resolution honoring February as Black History Month. For more information about Better Together, visit mvwsd.org/BetterTogetherMVWSD.

PACT FOUNDATION UPDATES
Rumplestiltskin / PACT Players: Calling all CREW!
If you have a middle or high school alumni student interested in joining the backstage crew for our spring musical, Rumplestiltskin, please have them fill out this registration form. Also, if you’re new to Stevenson and have an older child who didn’t attend, they’re more than welcome to join us!
Volunteering backstage is a big commitment. It’s a lot of work, especially during tech week (April 21–24, 3:00–6:30 PM) and the weekend of the show (April 25–27). But, it’s a ton of fun, too! Note: We’re only seeking middle and high school alumni to keep our team streamlined and experienced. Thanks for understanding!
