Dear Stingray Parents,

Thank you for your continued support and partnership with our teachers and staff during these first weeks of distance learning. Last week, we held our second Parent Ed session for new families. It was great to hear some of  the successes with virtual learning and also the support that our parents and teachers provided to each other with some of the challenges families have noticed with learning at home.  Over the next couple of weeks, parents and staff will have the opportunity to provide their thoughts on what has been working well and areas of improvement with distance learning. I welcome parents to join our virtual coffee hosted by Superintendent Dr. Rudolph for Stevenson parents tomorrow, Thursday at 9:30am.  Our district will also be sending out an email communication using ThoughtExchange. Thank you and we look forward to hearing your thoughts as we continue to plan and refine distance learning for our students.

Sincerely,

Ryan Santiago

Student Attendance and Engagement

Due to new state guidance, beginning Sept 8, there will be some changes to how our school is required to count and monitor student attendance.

It’s important to know that school attendance during distance learning is mandatory. If your student will be absent, please report it by calling or emailing us as soon as possible. If your child is having difficulty with distance learning, please let us know. We want to help.

Changes to attendance monitoring beginning Sept 8:

  • Elementary teachers will check in with students at the beginning of the day. Attendance will be taken at the end of the day every day, including Wednesdays. For middle school students, attendance is taken every period of the day, including Wednesdays.

  • Students will no longer get a separate participation grade in Google Classroom. Attendance and participation scores are now combined and can be viewed by parents in Powerschool under “attendance history.”

  • If you don’t report your student’s absence, your school will be calling you to determine the reason for the absence.

For more information about attendance, please see https://www.mvwsd.org/attendance

Distance Learning - Thought Exchange

Due to COVID-19, MVWSD has been working to refine its procedures and protocols to serve families in this new distance-learning environment. Extensive work has happened at every level: Instruction, technology, food service, and more. Our plans are summarized in “Return to Learn: MVWSD Reopening Plan” at https://www.mvwsd.org/returntolearn.

Now that we've been distance learning for several weeks due to COVID-19, in your opinion, what’s working well and what are our areas of improvement? To answer this question, we ask that you participate in this online exchange of ideas - ThoughtExchange - with other parents, students in grade 5 and higher, and MVWSD staff members. Through Sept. 17, please share your thoughts and return again to rate the thoughts shared by others.

You may participate in this exchange by clicking on this link: http://mvw.sd/TE. Translation is available in multiple languages. We cannot thank you enough for your patience and flexibility in the last few months. Your input will help us further improve and refine our plans as we move into the future.

School Site Council (SSC) Meeting and Parent Elections

Queridos Stingray Padres,
