What is an ELAC?

Every public K-12 school in California that has more than 21 English Learner students must have an ELAC. The ELAC consists of parents and teachers that work together to support English Learner students with their education.

What is ELAC's purpose?

ELAC's purpose is to advise the principal, school staff, and the School Site Council on programs and services for English Learners. They also work with the school to provide information to the parents and give a voice to the English Learner community so that these families' questions and concerns can be carried back to the principal, school staff, and School Site Council.

If you have any questions, please contact Principal Ryan Santiago at [email protected] or (650) 903 6950 or our School and Community Engagement Facilitator, Mayra Garcia-Mendoza at [email protected].

Please visit mvwsd.org for more information and videos about ELAC.

Parent Input for 2022-2023 (Repeat)

Attached is an optional survey for current kindergarten to fourth grade parents to gather input on any special considerations or relevant needs you would like us to review during our student placement process for the 2022-2023 school year. For example, you may wish to comment about peer relationships, interests, and learning styles.

Please provide your feedback by Friday, May 13th.

International Day is this Friday! May 13 from 5 pm to 7 pm at the school picnic tables.

We invite students and families to share activities and/or food from all cultures and countries with the Stevenson community (*). These activities can be games, arts and crafts, music, a special family dish, etc.

Please sign up so we can assign everyone a table/location and coordinate with the participating students/families.  We are also looking for volunteers to help with clean up.

(*) "International" Day does not mean you need to be from a foreign country. The US is also a country :-) and if you're 1st-generation, 3rd-, 7th- or Native American you should feel encouraged to participate and share something of your own culture. Maybe you're from a region of the country you want to showcase, or part of one of the multiple cultures that are part of it, or just have a nice family tradition to share, please sign up!

May Better Together Infographic

May is Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, which celebrates the histories of Americans hailing from across the Asian continent and from the Pacific islands of Melanesia, Micronesia and Polynesia. May 7, 1843, marks the arrival of the first Japanese immigrants to the United States. And May 10, 1869, or Golden Spike Day, recognizes the completion of the first transcontinental railroad in the U.S., which had significant contributions from Chinese workers. AAPI Heritage Month gives us a chance to celebrate and center the unique journey of all AAPI immigrants and citizens in the United States and their unique life experiences, traditions, and cultures. Please see the attached flyers or visit http://mvwsd.org/bettertogetherMVWSD.

MVWSD seeking District Equity Advisory Committee members

MVWSD is continuing our work by engaging meaningfully with the community on issues of equity through the District Equity Advisory Committee (DEAC). The goal of the DEAC is to provide feedback to the Superintendent on how to support MVWSD towards achieving its goals of becoming a more equitable and inclusive school district.

We are seeking a combination of district-level leaders, principals, teachers, staff members, and parent participants who represent the interests of both elementary and middle schools. Committee members will be expected to attend and participate virtually in meetings held monthly (on average) online during the 2022-23 school year in the evening hours. The average commitment will be approximately 20 hours per academic school year.

Applications are due by June 3 and found at this link. More information is at https://www.mvwsd.org/about/committees.
