October 4, 2024
Dear Stingray Parents and Guardians,
Have you made your annual donation to the PACT Foundation fund? Much of the programming at Stevenson is made possible through your annual donation and additionally, Parent Involvement is a large part of what makes Stevenson special. Support Stevenson here! (And remember to also fill out the forms with your place of employment for corporate matching).
October is safety month and while we hold fire drills each month, all schools in MVWSD have additional safety practices during October:
-
On October 17 we will hold an earthquake drill so students and staff members can practice strategies for evacuation, accounting for students, parent-student reunification, search and rescue techniques, first aid, and school operations without power, food or water. This date corresponds with the Great Shakeout, an international effort to bring awareness to earthquake safety.
If your volunteer shift happens to be during an emergency, you will go with the class
to the evacuation area (tennis courts) and stay there until the Incident Commander
gives the signal for student release to parents to begin.
In an emergency where students will not be returning to class and must be picked up
by parents or legal guardians, please remain calm and orderly and follow the
instructions given by staff when you arrive. If you arrive before release begins, you
will need to wait patiently as no students will be released to parents until ALL students have been
accounted for. Once that happens, the Incident Commander will give the order for the release of students to begin.
-
In October, our elementary schools will review what to do in the event of a dangerous intruder or similar event on campus. The dates for each school’s practice will vary depending on scheduling. Practice means students will view an age-appropropriate video (like the “dangerous intruder” video for elementary students that you may preview here- English) and talk with their teacher. The video and classroom discussion will encourage children to stay calm, follow directions, and listen to trusted adults.
Stevenson classes will watch the video and have a classroom discussion during the last week of October.
Warm Regards,
Terri Lambert
Principal, Stevenson Elementary

Better Together: October
Families come in all shapes and sizes, each one a unique community bound by love, support, and shared experiences. This month #BetterTogether presents the topic “A family is a community”. October is also LGBTQ+ History Month. As we celebrate both of these together, we are reminded of the countless families that have fought for recognition and acceptance, paving the way for a more inclusive understanding of what family means. From single-parent households to multigenerational homes, from same-sex couples to chosen families within the LGBTQ+ community, each family contributes its own special thread to the vibrant tapestry of our society. For more information about Better Together, visit mvwsd.org/bettertogetherMVWSD.
