1.25.24

Dear Stingray Parents and Guardians,

As you know, our district is transitioning to controlled access to campuses and the conversion to access key cards for staff.  The perimeter gates were removed today to be modified for the new door hardware.  The gates will be reinstalled after approximately one week.  At pick up time, parents still need to wait outside the campus until dismissal time.

Kindergarten students did a great presentation to the whole school today on the monthly Stevenson value of Community.  They interviewed some staff, students, and volunteers around campus, asking them about their role in our community.  Volunteers videoed the interviews to be shown at the assembly.  The Kindergartners also sang the Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood theme song!  Stevenson has a wonderful community and the kindergarten students reminded everyone today how valuable community is.  As MVEF says, “Imagine what we can do together!”.  I appreciate being part of such a caring community.

Warm Regards,

Terri Lambert

Principal, Stevenson Elementary

Arts Focus

The City Hall art show reception will be held this Monday January 22, from 5:30-7 pm.  Please come! The children are sweetly proud of their work and appreciative of your interest! That would be a wonderful way to learn what Arts Focus is!

We will have a craft for the kids to do and light snacks.  If you cannot attend the reception, the show will be on display from 1/19 to 2/1, please bring your children to view it. The children are proud and happy to see their work included in a real art show. City Hall's open hours are from 8-5 pm weekdays.

Our next session is just around the corner. It will happen on Thursdays from Feb 1 to March 14.

A New Year is a new opportunity to grow, both for our children and ourselves as well.  Volunteering in Arts Focus allows us to observe classes of mixed ages, learning art and experimentation over a 6-week curriculum. If your schedule has changed this year, and you find you have time either for a 2- or 4-hour volunteer shift on one or multiple Thursday mornings, we can place you in a classroom. You don't need any experience.  Please get in touch with Nagehan [email protected] or Rimma [email protected] now to ensure our program runs smoothly this Spring.

PACT Pals Spring Session

You can register for classes at pactpals.org. Registration closes Sunday 1/28. If you see the registration link after 1/28, that means the class is still taking students. You can register anytime.

Better Together: January

“There are all kinds of courage," said Dumbledore, smiling. "It takes a great deal of bravery to stand up to our enemies, but just as much to stand up to our friends." - J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

Sometimes, being a good ally might mean standing up to our friends to protect someone else. In the month of January, MVWSD students will explore the essential question: How do I have a difficult conversation with someone? A thoughtful ally finds a way to express themselves respectfully and with an open mind. For more information about Better Together, visit mvwsd.org/BetterTogetherMVWSD.
